Let’s face it, we’re all busy. We have schedules that are jam packed with work meetings, house chores, dentist appointments and lunch dates. For those of us who are parents, you can count on adding soccer practice and piano lessons to your calendar. The truth is, we live in a culture that glorifies busyness. We live the hectic schedules of our design, and it’s not often we take the time to pause to reflect and acknowledge our successes.
As 2019 comes to a close and with the new year just around the corner, now is the perfect time to reflect on your achievements, both big and small. Why, you may ask, is this necessary? Simply, because it feels good. Reflecting on our successes and basking in the glory of our own achievements provides us with feelings of self-worth and pride. These feelings make us feel good and we want more of these good feelings. This in turn will drive you to achieve more, propelling you towards more success.
While it’s important to acknowledge your achievements, it doesn’t have to be a big event. You can simply sit back and relax with a cup of coffee and your positive self-reflections. For those who are into journaling, make a list and jot down what went well for you this year. Perhaps you have others in your life you want to express gratitude to for helping you get to where you are at. Call them on the phone and say thanks. So, go ahead, celebrate yourself and all your wins. You deserve it!
