Play San Ramon

To many, ‘play’ is considered a direct opposite of ‘work.’ The two become one at Treehouse Counseling Services, a leader in the realm of play therapy serving the San Ramon community.

Why ‘play’?
Play is an important part of human happiness. It is fun and enjoyable and it elevates our spirits and brightens our outlook on life. A leading authority of play therapy, Garry Landreth, said, “toys work like the child’s words and play is the child’s language.”

What is play therapy?
The language of childhood is play; whereas it would be wonderful if children could simply tell us in a direct fashion what is bothering them, it is more common for them to work out their issues through play. Play therapy includes activities like: drawing, puppet play, role play, Sandtray, playing with toys and creating artwork.

Who benefits from Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a modality most often used with children, but adults and families have been known to benefit from it as well. Because Play Therapy covers a wide range of therapeutic models, adults who respond well to Expressive Arts such as drawing, painting, playing music, and writing have also found solace in play therapy.

At Treehouse Counseling Services, play is truly second nature. Mary Ruth Cross is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor with multiple interns under her wing. She is a past president of the California Association of Play Therapy as well as also a member in good standing with the Association of Play Therapy. With Mary Ruth and her staff, you and your children are in good, capable hands.
